Graduation is a huge milestone, and your photos should reflect all the hard work and dedication that got you here. A little preparation goes a long way in making sure your session is smooth, fun, and results in photos you absolutely love.
Here are a few simple tips to help you show up confident and camera-ready.
1. Come Photo-Ready (Hair & Makeup Matter)
Even if you don’t typically wear makeup, I recommend a natural, polished look for your session. Cameras can sometimes wash out your features, so a little extra effort helps you look your best on camera.
These photos aren’t just for announcements—they can also be used for professional purposes like job applications and LinkedIn profiles.
2. Iron or Steam Your Clothes the Night Before
Wrinkles are one of the hardest things to fix in editing.
Make sure your outfits—including your cap and gown—are ironed or steamed ahead of time. This small step makes a huge difference in how polished your final images look.
3. Moisturize (Don’t Skip This)
Dry skin—especially on hands, elbows, and legs—can be very noticeable in photos.
Bring lotion with you and apply it before your session if needed. This helps your skin look smooth and camera-ready.
4. Bring Your Graduation Essentials
Double-check that you have everything you need before leaving for your session:
- Cap and gown
- Tassel
- Stole or honor cords
- Diploma cover
- Any props (confetti, champagne, etc.)
It’s always better to have more than you need than to forget something important.
5. Plan Your Outfits Ahead of Time
Choose outfits that:
- Fit well and make you feel confident
- Reflect your personal style
- Complement (not clash with) your cap and gown
- Try everything on ahead of time so there are no surprises.
6. Bring Comfortable Shoes
If we’re walking between locations, comfortable shoes will make your experience much better.
You can always switch into your “photo shoes” once we’re in position.
7. Relax and Have Fun
This is your moment! You’ve worked hard for it!
My goal during your session is to create a relaxed, fun environment so your personality shines through. Don’t worry about posing—I’ll guide you every step of the way.
These photos are meant to capture both your accomplishment and the excitement of what’s next!
With a little preparation, you’ll walk into your session feeling confident—and it will show in every photo!
